Abstract:
Genetic transformation studies were carried out using disarmed Agrobacterium tumefaciens harbouring vector pGV 3850 Neo which confers kanamycin resistance.
Inoculated hypocotyl segments of cotton selected on Kanamycin containing medium, supplemented with different hormones gave rise to transformed calli.
The calli obtained from the hypocotyls were selected for continuous proliferation on kanamycin medium.
The transformed calli were resistant to the antibiotic and expressed the neomycin phosphotransferase-II enzyme.
It was possible to induce somatic embryogenesis in the transformed calli.
Somatic embryos germinated into small plantlets on transferring to another medium.
