AGROBACTERIUM-MEDIATED TRANSFORMATION OF OAK (QUERCUS ROBUR L.)

Authors:   S. Roest, H.G.M.J. Brueren, P.W. Evers, E. Vermeer
Abstract:
After infection of nodal stem explants of different clones of oak (Quercus robur L.) with two strains of Agrobacterium carrying the beta-glucuronidase (GUS) gene and culture on modified WPM medium, roots and calli were formed at the base of the explants. The histochemical assay revealed GUS activity in some roots and calli. The expression of the GUS gene suggests successful transformation of oak. The regeneration of transgenic plants has still to be achieved through the development of an appropriate regeneration procedure.
