STUDIES ON GLYCOCONJUGATES IN TOBACCO MICROSPORES DURING INDUCTION OF ANDROGENESIS

Authors:   N.P. Matveyeva, I.P. Yermakov
Abstract:
Glycoconjugates in microspores from Nicotiana tabacum were studied by quantitative fluorescence microscopy using the lectin Concanavalin A - FITC. At early stages of microspore development surface glycoconjugates depositions were revealed with high the lectin binding properties. Similar patterns were seen during pollen grains transition to embryogenesis induced by cold treatment of isolated buds, in contrast to pollen grains forming in vivo. The latter bound ConA-FITC weakly. The data indicate that induction of androgenesis is accompanied by the changes in surface glycoconjugates.
