ENHANCEMENT OF MORPHOGENETIC RESPONSE IN COTYLEDON-DERIVED EXPLANTS OF CUCUMIS MELO INDUCED BY COPPER ION

Authors:   B. Garcia-Sogo, L.A. Roig, V. Moreno
Abstract:
A new simple cultural factor having a highly significative effect on the morphogenetic response in explant-derived callus of melon has been discovered. The addition of copper ion at unusually high concentrations (0.1 to 5.0 mg/l copper sulfate) to the culture media consistently increases the organogenic response of the explants; the frequency of organogenic calli. the extension of organized growing areas in the callus and, the most importantly fact, the development of the organogenic structures. The most favorable concentration was found to be of 1 mg/l copper sulfate.
