ISOLATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF A SALT-TOLERANT LINE OF ARACHIS HYPOGAEA USING IN VITRO CULTURES

Authors:   N. SARIN, A. GUPTA, S. PRAKASH, B. BISWAS
Abstract:
A callus line of Arachis hypogaea L. tolerant to 200 mM concentration of NaCl has been isolated after stepwise subjecting the callus cultures to 50, 100, and 150 mM Nacl. There was an increased growth of tolerant calli as compared to the control calli, when subjected to different concentrations of salt. The free cytoplasmic proline content of the callus was found to increase with increasing concentration of salt and this increase was more in control calli as compared to tolerant calli after 28 days.
