Abstract:
For a long time plant species from the Solanaceae are involved in development and applications of new procedures of biotechnology because of a good knowledge and identification of genetic resources, the ability to regenerate plants even from protoplasts, the successes in gene transfers via somatic hybridization or transformation.
In this paper, we have attempted to provide a brief summary of the applied successes in plant biotechnology in the Solanaceae, with special emphasis on the examples of eggplant and potato.
