Abstract:
Observations on reproductive ecology had been made in mediterranean, evergreen shrub Viburnum tinus L. at the Quercus ilex sclerophyllous woodlands in eastern Iberian Peninsule.
The species is allogamous and self-incompatible: pollinator exclusion and self-pollination prevent seed production.
Incompatibility system exhibited by the species is homomorphic Gametophitic.
Pollination is carried out by mean of insects, and pollen seems to be the more important reward.
Most or recorded visits concern to Hymenoptera, but another insect groups, as Diptera, Coleoptera or Lepidoptera, are observed.
Pollinator limitation may be the cause of low flower/fruit ratio detected in the species under natural conditions.
