ISHS Acta Horticulturae 288: VI International Symposium on Pollination

THE INFLUENCE OF SOME FACTORS ON POLLEN YIELD OF FLOWERS

Author:   K. Szklanowska
Abstract:
Pollen mass, produced by apple tree, raspberry and strawberry flowers, was studied. It was stated that the pollen yield of flowers depended to a great extent on the plant cultivar and on its florescence season, that is on the weather conditions in spring. The mass of pollen produced by particular flowers lessens on the whole as the period of florescence is passing and is also lower the further a flower is situated in the inflorescence. It is connected mainly with the lower number of anthers in flowers blooming later and the lower amount of pollen produced by them.
