Abstract:
Saxifraga hirculus L., a circumboreal plant species, is found in small isolated populations in central and western Europe.
In Denmark it is known from 15 spring areas rich in electrolytes.
We have described the flowering and seasonal changes in flower sex ratio, the frequency of flower visitors from the largest of these populations as well as the predation and potential transfer of pollen, and the temporal changes in pollen flow and neighbourhood structure.
These observations support the hypothesis of a lower limit of patch size enabling seed-set.
