Abstract:
Excess of seeds is the main problem in marketing the Murcott fruit.
In this work, experiments were conducted to find the role of pollination on number of seeds and productivity.
We compared open pollination with self-spontaneous and with self-artificial pollination and found that there are significant differences among the different treatments in each of the following stages: fruit set, young fruit and ripe fruit.
Our conclusions are that: (a) Murcott cultivar is self-compatible; (b) the Murcott cultivar depends on pollinating agent, for practical purposes this is the honeybee; (c) the Murcott cultivar is unable to produce parthenocarpic fruits.
