Abstract:
It is now known that bumblebees can pollinate tomato flowers in glasshouses during the whole growing season (January-September). This means that there is a huge market for bumblebee colonies which should be available yearround.
A method has been developed for rearing bumblebee colonies continuously.
The species used is Bombus terrestris L. It is possible to build up and maintain a colony production starting with only a limited number of queens caught in the field.
