Abstract:
Vegetable exports contribute substantially to the prosperity of Greek farmers and to reduce the Greek trade deficit.
Future export patterns are heavily depended on competitiveness of vegetable products.
The precise identification and estimation of any changes in competitiveness will facilitate the further export expansion and longrun economic planning.
The assignment given in this paper is to determine changes in the patterns of vegetables exports and changes in their competitiveness by applying the constant market share approach.
Changes and shifts in competitiveness are estimated for major exported vegetables (cucumbers, peppers and asparagus) within the EC market.
The estimates demonstrate considerable changes in both exporting patterns and competitiveness of the exported vegetables, affecting Greece's trade policy.
