ISHS Acta Horticulturae 287: II International Symposium on Protected Cultivation of Vegetables in Mild Winter Climates

ENVIRONMENT AND GROWTH REGULATOR CONTROL OF PLANT DEVELOPMENT

Author:   W.W. Schwabe
Abstract:
From the germination of the seed until the final harvest there are many opportunities to manipulate growth and development of plants by growth regulator application or environment control so as to maximise yield or accelerate production. Examples given illustrate various aspects of possible control methods which are in use or may be suggested for practicable application. These will follow the plant's life cycle from seed germination to seed production. Some of the underlying mechanisms and aspects of the interrelation of environment and internal hormones are briefly discussed.
