Abstract:
This experiment deals with the influence of pruning on the early and total yield of an early spring muskmelon crop grown under cold plastic greenhouses.
Influence of plant densities and pruning systems were tested on four varieties.
The best results were obtained with the combined pruning system, which resulted in earliness on the creeping branches and high total yield on the staked branches.
The density of 2 plants/m2 gave the best yields, and with little decrease in average fruit weight.
The varieties 'Alpha' and 'Orlinabel' gave the highest yields and in high density with the combined pruning system the total yield reached 8.9 kg/m2. Earliness was better with 'Alpha' than with 'Orlinabel'.
