Abstract:
A trial with runner beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) has been carried out in Autumn (September-December) in two commercial plastic greenhouses at the Experimental Station "La Mayora", Algarrobo-Costa (Málaga), Spain.
Two types of soil, natural and artificial, were compared.
The aim of this work was to establish the advantages from the point of view of the yield and earliness of an artificial soil, made with sand and peat, which is being used in the Andalusian south coast since the fifties.
Drip irrigation and fertilization were the same in both types of soil.
Yield and earliness were significatively higher when artificial soil was employed.
