ISHS Acta Horticulturae 286: International Symposium on Olive Growing

SCALES-OLIVE PESTS IN SOUTHERN PART OF MONTENEGRO

Author:   V. Velimirovic
Abstract:
In the region of Montenegrin Coast olive trees are attacked by various pests, among which scales represent a numerous group. During 1987–89 the following species were recorded to be attacking olives: Saissetia oleae Olivier, Philippia oleae Costa, Parlatoria oleae Colvee, Pseudaulacaspis pentagona Targonia, and Quadraspidiotus sp. In addition the presence of some other scales species has been recorded on other plant species of the same region: Aspidiotus nerii Bouche, Lepidosaphes ulmi Lind, and Chrysomphalus dictyospermi Morgan, which are cited as olive pests in other countries. Among the olive pests the most significant and best distributed is S. oleae, which causes great economical harms. It is more numerous on humid localities and in denser olive groves. P. oleae and P. pentagona tend to expand.
