ISHS Acta Horticulturae 286: International Symposium on Olive Growing

EVALUATION OF NATURAL ENEMIES OF THE PHLOEOTRIBUS SCARABAEOIDES (BERN.) (COL: SCOLYTIDAE) IN GRANADA OLIVE GROVES

Authors:   R. González, M. Campos
Abstract:
The impact caused on Pholoeotribus scarabaeoides (Bern.) populations by its natural enemies has been studied in Southern Spain. (Granada) from 1986 to 1989. Several hymenopterous ectoparasitoids species have been found, of which Cheiropachus quadrum (F.), Raphitelus maculatus (Walk.) and Eurytoma morio (Bohem.) are the most representative. Among the predators Laemophloeus juniperi (Grouv.) is the most important. Occasionally, pseudoscorpions are found in the maternal gallery, feeding on beetle eggs. Under restricted conditions, the predation carried out by ant species is important, mainly by Crematogaster scutellaris (Oliv.).
