ISHS Acta Horticulturae 286: International Symposium on Olive Growing

TIMING OF NAA APPLICATION IN OLIVE THINNING

Authors:   D. Barranco, W. H. Krueger
Abstract:
A single concentration of 200 ppm NAA was applied at full bloom (FB) plus 5, 15, 25 and 35 days. FB+5 was the most effective timing resulting in a strong reduction in fruit set, and increase in fruit size and return bloom. Treatments applied from FB+15 did not affect fruit set or size but significantly reduced return bloom. This last effect appears to be related to phytotoxicity of NAA which was apparently unimportant when fruit set was reduced (FB+5). Phytotoxicity has been observed in posterior treatments using concentrations greater than 100 ppm of NAA.
