ISHS Acta Horticulturae 286: International Symposium on Olive Growing

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN STOMATAL SIZE AND WINTER HARDINESS IN THE OLIVE

Authors:   G. Roselli, G. Venora
Abstract:
Parabolic correlations were found between the degree of winter hardiness and stomatal perimeter and also between perimeter size and stomatal density. These correlations indicate that the two variables contribute to the regulation of transpiration and that hardy genotypes are characterized by a low number of small or large sized stomata. Cluster analysis of stomatal perimeter enables to differentiate the examined cultivars.
