Abstract:
Four Meloidogyne can cause severe damage to Prunus under Mediterranean climatic conditions : M. arenaria, M. incognita, M. javanica and M. hispanica.
More than 300 clones or hybrids were tested in order to find "non-host" sources to M. arenaria, including the diploid species (P. amyqdalus, P. armeniaca, P. avium, P. brigantiaca, P. cerasifera, P. cerasus, P. domestica, P. fremonti, P. mira, P. tomentosa), triploid species (P. cerasus, P. marianna), tetraploid species (P. spinosa) and hexaploid species (P. domestica, P. insititia).
In addition to P. armeniaca, which is immune, is "non-host" sources were present in most of the tested Prunus. In each Prunus species the different clones were highly variable in their host suitability.
Some clones and intraspecific hybrids of P. cerasifera were tested in order to determine the inheritance of this character.
Results support the hypothesis that transmission of the host suitability character is controlled by at least two groups of independent factors, one of which seems to be predominant.
