Abstract:
Studies were carried out at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, on eight-year-old plants of Japanese plum cv.
Kala Amritsar and Kataru Chak.
Paper chromatography separation followed by quantitative determination of different sugars during ripening pase III of the fruit showed that glucose was higher in concentration followed by sucrose and fructose.
Glucose and sucrose increased during ripening whereas fructose decreased.
The level of total carbohydrates increased during ripening phase in both the cultivars.
