Abstract:
A history and the present state of clonal selection of 'Domestic Prune' in Czechoslovakia are briefly described.
Altogether 43 clones are preserved from which 11 are multiplicated in a virus free state and the latest 8 are subjected to virus testing at present.
The variability of this material in 10 characters which were measured and 20 other ones which were mostly rated in 1 – 9 score system is presented.
This variability is so great that it excludes a possibility that the clones are derived from a single cultivar.
As the material is obviously a part of partially selected population that was originated in the past by a spontaneous hybridization, it should contain some useful genes that have not been yet properly recognized.
The tolerance to Plum Pox Virus (PPV) which is now being searched in the material might be one of them.
