Abstract:
Regeneration of shoots was achieved from in vitro leaves of 8 cultivars of apple (Malus x domestica Borkh.).
Differences in cultivar response were shown by reducing the time of culture on regeneration medium (RM) (N6 salts, LS vitamins, 22μM BA, 0.5μM IBA) and the BA concentration in the regeneration medium.
To produce adventitious shoots 'Gala' leaves needed at least 2.2μM BA, and a minimum of 10 days on a medium inducing regeneration.
When leaves were cultured for 10–20 days on a hormone-free medium before transfer to RM, the number of adventitious shoots produced drastically decreased.
