Abstract:
The origin of a somaclonal variant of a miniature cymbidium is described.
Commercial propagation of this plant is usually achieved through shoot tip in vitro culture.
As an alternative method of micropropagation, flower buds had been cultured in vitro ; protocorms were formed and after a few cycles of multiplication, plantlets were obtained.
Two of twenty plants grown to maturity showed a variation of flower colour and a slight variation in the shape of flower.
The original colour of tepals was cinnamon; the new colour is yellow-brownish and the tepals are sharper than normal.
