A SURVEY OF SOME TEMPERATE FRUIT DISEASES IN THAILAND

Apple diseases recorded were anthracnose (Colletotrichum gloeosporioides), powdery mildew (Oidium sp.), leaf scorch (Marssonina rosae), collar rot (Sclerotium rolfsii), canker (Leptosphaeria sp.), and pink disease (Corticium salmonicolor).

Peach diseases found were rust (Tranzschelia pruni-spinosa), powdery mildew (Oidium sp.), bacterial shot hole (Xanthomonas pruni), heart rot (Schizophyllum commune), soft rot (Rhizopus stolonifer), fruit rots due to Phomopsis sp., and Aspergillus niger.

Pear diseases were leaf spot (Phyllosticta sp.), spur blight (Phomopsis ambigua), rust (Ochropsora ariae), powdery mildew (Ovulariopsis sp.), anthracnose (Colletotrichum gloeosporioides), calyx end rot (Alternaria alternata), pink disease (Corticium salmonicolor), chocolate brown rot (Phomopsis sp.), and postharvest pear fruit rots caused by Phomopsis sp., A. alternata, C. gloeosporioides, A. niger, R. stolonifer, and Dothiorella sp.

Persimmon diseases were leaf spot (Cercospora kakivora) and fruit rots caused by Mucor sp.

Diseases of strawberry were red stele (Phytophthora fragariae), leather rot (Phytophthora cactorum), eye spot (Ramularia fragariae), leaf scorch (Marssonina fragariae), leaf blight (Dendrophoma obscurans), powdery mildew (Oidium sp.), anthracnose (Colletotrichum sp.), soft rot (Rhizopus stolonifer), grey mold (Botrytis cinerea), Botryodiplodia theobromae, and root knot (Meloidogyne sp.). Colletotrichum sp., B. cinerea and P. cactorum are postharvest diseases which occur when the fruits are previously subjected to adverse climatic condition and improper handling. Miscellaneous diseases of grapes and figs are also included in this report.
