Abstract:
Five pear cultivars namely Xiang Sui, Pien Pu, Pathanak, Yokoyama Wase and Song Moe were stored at 3°C, 17°C and at room temperature (24–37°C). Xiang Sui and Pien Pu pears had long storage life extended at low temperature.
Xiang Sui pear could be stored for 60 days at 3°C and 7 days at 17°C whilst retaining acceptability.
Fruit quality was lost after one week at room temperature.
Pien Pu remained unripe for 35, 14 and 7 days and ripened at 70, 21 and 14 days when stored at 3, 17°C and room temperature respectively.
Pathanak, Song Moe and Yokoyama Wase had inferior storage properties.
Their acceptability is lost within 5–10 days at all storage temperatures.
These pears were also sensitive to low temperature injury.
Pathanak and Yokoyama Wase showed injury symptoms after 25 and 30 days of storing under 17°C and 3°C. Song Moe pears were more sensitive to low temperatures, and injury developed within 8 days of storing at 17°C and 3°C.
