EFFECT OF ETHREL ON RIPENING OF FRUITS OF PATHARNAKH PEAR HARVESTED ON DIFFERENT DATES

Authors:   S.S. Mann, B. Singh
Abstract:
The effect of ethrel (250, 500 and 1 000 ppm) on ripening of Patharnakh pear fruit harvested after 140 and 150 days after fruit set was studied. There was a gradual decline in the firmness of the fruit with the application of ethrel on both harvesting dates. The firmness of the fruit had on adverse relation with the concentration of ethrel. The decline in fruit firmness was more prominent during 5 to 10 days of ripening period in fruits harvested after 140 days than those harvested after 150 days. There was an increase in TSS and sugars with a corresponding decrease in acid content during ripening. The starch content decreased sharply during initial 5 to 10 days of ripening on both harvesting dates. Coloring pigments increased while the phenolics decreased during the ripening period.
