BREAKING DORMANCY OF NATIVE PEACH SEEDS

White-fruited peach and red-fruited peach seeds were collected from The Royal Ang-Khang Experiment Station in 1986. Seeds without endocarp were dipped in growth promoting chemicals and stored in a moist condition under four temperature conditions (room temperature, 5°C, 10°C and 15°C). There were no significant differences in growth between the two varieties. Seeds stored at 10°C for 4 weeks were found to germinate better than those stored at 5°C and 15°C. Seeds stored at room temperature failed to germinate during the experimental period (2 weeks). N-Benzyldenine was found to improve germination and subsequent seedling growth.
