Abstract:
A foliar application of paclobutrazol on maiden Bramley's Seedling apple trees on M.27 and MM.106 rootstocks restricted the growth and improved the flowering.
It counteracted the effects of a 61% reduction in natural light on the numbers of flower buds, flower clusters, flower bud density, tree flower cluster efficiency and specific leaf weight.
The results suggest that paclobutrazol could enable these cultivar/rootstock combinations to be grown successfully in high-density planting system.
