ACCLIMATION OF JAPANESE PEAR 'KOSUI' UNDER WARM TEMPERATURE DURING EARLY GROWING PERIOD IN A VINYL HOUSE

Abstract:
Physiological and morphological behaviour of Japanese pear (Pyrus serotina Rehder) cv. Kosui exposed to warm temperature, especially, during early spring after rest were studied by the covering with a EVA film.

Bud break and flowering were advanced for about 10 days and fruit growth was also hastened by 10–14 days. Fruits were larger and more elongated in shape under the higher temperature. Covered trees had 15% larger leaves and 22% longer shoots with an LAI of 2.53 compared to 2.03 for open field trees.

Photosynthesis of individual leaves was found to be low as along with low levels of carbohydrate reserves in the various types of shoots exposed to warm temperature. Root respiratory activities declined earlier than that of field trees in autumn in spite of high activity during the summer season.
