Abstract:
The fruits of Patharnakh pear took 150 days to reach harvest maturity.
The fruit growth (length and diameter and weight) increased from fruit set to harvest maturity and exhibited three distant phases.
The fruit color changed from green in the initial stages to yellow green in final stages.
The specific gravity of the fruit decreased from fruit set till harvest.
The fruit firmness in terms of lbs/sq inch. decreased markedly as the fruits reached harvest maturity.
The TSS increased with the advancement of harvesting season while the changes in acids content fluctuated throughout the period of study.
There was an increase in the sugars (reducing and total) content with the advancement of picking season.
However, a remarkable increase was recorded in fruits nearing maturity.
Starch content showed a continuous increase up to the age of 105 days and decreased thereafter.
The total phenolics content showed a continuous increase upto 30 days after which a continuous decrease was recorded.
