Abstract:
The purpose was to compare the SWATRER and CERES/MOD soil moisture outputs with available data from plot and lysimeter experiments on sugarbeet.
The CERES/MOD was tested in combination with two computing procedures for reference evapotranspiration (Penman F.A.O. and Pristley -Taylor). The SWATRER was tested with two hypothesis, i.e. of free drainage with lower boundary, as with fixed groundwater (GW) table level.
The CERES/MOD agrees satisfactorily with the lysimeter data when the groundwater does not interfere with the soil hydrology.
The values from the SWATRER model are larger when the watertable is taken in account and smaller when it is not.
The three dimensional graphs for the changes of the moisture profile in time are similar for SWATRER and CERES/MOD when neglecting the existence of the GW. Experimental data suggest a slower drainage along the profile.
Cumulated ET agree among all models and experimental data; experimental Kc values agree with those of CERES/MOD and experimental Kd values agree with those of SWATRER considering the GW.
