Abstract:
In order to schedule the irrigation of some herbacesous crops (sugar beet, broccoli, sunflower, corn, processing tomato, soybean, sorghum, spinach, potato, bean, artichoke, cucumber), a software package, based on soil water balance, was realized.
In particular, the maximum evapotranspiration (ETM), from "class A" pan evaporation (Epan), and relative crop coefficients (Kc) were calculated.
To estimate water application volumes it is necessary to input both daily Epan and rainfall, besides soil type and irrigation method.
The computer program is easily usable by farmers because of the few and common parameters in input and also it allows the contemporarily irrigation management of many crops located in different farm units.
Siòulations were made on several crops, for different soil conditions and irrigation methods, using meteorological data of a representative growth season and irrigated area of Southern Italy.
The program was not tested in the real field conditions, but the irrigation parameters obtained from the simulations are according to the results of experimental trials carried out in the same environment.
