Abstract:
A report is given of the research carried out in 1988 on water management by computer of a class 600 maize crop (Zea mays L.; cv. 'Dekalb XL72A') harvested at the soft dent stage.
The method proposed makes a preliminary evaluation of crop productivity in the environment studied, with the aid of data banks relative to average local climate and to the chemico-physical and hydropedological characteristics of the soil and those of the crop.
It then evaluates the daily water balance on the basis of the actual climate.
It calculates the evapotranspiration according to ET=EV.Ef, where EV is the measured or calculated Class A pan evaporation and Ef the crop physiological efficiency.
This coefficient is linked to the first derivative of the logistical equation that interprets the crop growth rate and is continually evaluated during the crop water balance, taking the rate of deepening of the root zone and the soil's water potential into account.
