Abstract:
Water availability is a limiting factor for the growth of eggplant under warm semi-arid climatic conditions.
Water/yield relations were determined for three population densities of eggplant grown in a typical mediterranean environment (Gela Plain - Sicily).
There were significant differences in yield and fruit weight between the different water regimes and plant densities.
Irrigation depth corresponding to the crop evapotraspiration in combination with a population of 4 plants/m2 resulted the most productive treatment.
Water shortage during the harvest period determined a fruit weight reduction.
