Abstract:
In Italy ecophysiology has only recently acquired a significant relevance with an increasing number of scientists involved in application to cultivated plants.
Their contributions to a deeper knowledge of the different mechanisms operating in crop-drought responses could make possible to outline plant genetic traits which could valorize water resources and really help in making easier connections with irrigation scheduling.
Major results obtained on vegetable crops, togheter with considerations about equipments and the possible role of water ecophysiology in future research orientation are discussed.
