ISHS Acta Horticulturae 277: III International Symposium on Processing Tomatoes

INTEREST AND LIMITS OF THE USE OF MATURITY REGULATORS

Authors:   X. BRANTHOME, Y. PLE
Abstract:
The use of maturity regulator for crops of processing tomatoes is to obtain uniform ripeness, or sometimes to advance the harvesting date. With restricted injury to the foliage, these regulator applications act on the mature green fruits by accelerating the processes of ripening. However, the datas show that ethephon or dimethipin application may cause decreases of the Brix degree and colour rating if the conditions of use are not observed : rate selected, high temperatures during the post treatment period, excessive foliage destruction.
