ISHS Acta Horticulturae 277: III International Symposium on Processing Tomatoes

A TOMATO ROW MODEL EXPRESSING SPATIAL VARIABILITY

Author:   PH. Bussières
Abstract:
With intent to build a model for the fields cultivated with tomatoes in order to help in arguing about technics and better studying it, the groundwork of a model for a part of tomato plants row is proposed. This model aims at representing the row functioning with a daily time step and by expressing spatial heterogeneity. It describes the various levels (medium, canopy, plant, truss, fruit) and every individual within each level. Random variables which characterize seed position were introduced. Starting from a few climatic and technical factors, it gives a modelisation of plant number elaboration, dry matter elaboration through photosynthesis, dry matter distribution in plants, flowers and fruits number elaboration and then fruit growing. Simulation outputs are compared in a detailed way to observed situations. Some comparisons with row parts from various plots show an interesting validity of the model and incite to improve it.
