Abstract:
Because of the loss of registered fungicides and occasional severe losses of date fruit to fungal caused rots, testing of new fungicides was initiated in California's Coachella valley.
Results of in vitro tests demonstrated Topaz, Tilt, Ferbam, Rovral plus Benlate, Tilt plus Ferbam, and Imazalil, to be effective in controlling the fungi associated with rotting dates.
These fungicides were compared, as liquid formulations, to the standard ferbam dust formulation in a date garden.
Results indicated that none of the fungicides used was as effective in controlling rots as the standard ferbam dust.
These results may be due more to application problems associated with liquid formulations and to low concentrations than to ineffectiveness of the fungicides.
