THE MANGO INDUSTRY IN BRAZIL

Author:   L.C. Donadio
Abstract:
Production problems in the Brazilian mango industry are mainly related to the increase of mango malformation, soft nose, bacteriosis and the concentration of the harvesting period, due to the massive preference for planting Tommy Atkins. The mango export organization is controlled by several companies and supported by few research in production and post-harvest technology. The Brazilian mango industry will be discussed from its inception to recent times, including economics and research aspects. Emphasis will be given to research data and scientific mango studies in Brazil, mainly related to production aspects, such as nutrition, climate, biology, cultural practices and also fruit quality related to cultivars, rootstock, diseases, picking and post-harvest.
