ETHYLENE PRODUCTION AND 1-AMINOCYCLOPROPANE-1-CARBOXYLIC ACID LEVELS IN RIPENING AVOCADO FRUITS

Authors:   S.J. van Eeden, P.J. de Vries, J.G.M. Cutting
Abstract:
A simple method using ion exchange isolation and gas chromatography has been evaluated and optimised for the detection of 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) in fruit tissue. We have used this method to study ACC changes in ripening avocados under different storage conditions. Early indications are that ACC levels are affected by storage conditions. ACC and ethylene could be useful in researching the effects of long term storage on parameters such as fruit quality.
