Abstract:
A nodular white callus was induced in cultured terminal floral apices of Musa Dwarf Cavendish banana plants on Murashige and Tucker (1969) medium supplemented with glycine, nicotinic acid, thiamine-HCl, pyridoxin-HCl, 340 mg/l NaH2PO4, 100 mg/l 1-tyrosine, 30 g/l glucose and 5 mg/l N6-benzylaminopurine.
Most floral buds on the explants developed directly into plants, but callus formation was exhibited in 3 % of the cultures.
Plantlets were also regenerated from callus on the same medium.
The initial stages of this regeneration from callus appeared to be via somatic embryo development.
