Abstract:
Gypsum, applied to the soil surface, at 12 kg/tree in each of 5 years (1982–1986) increased soil Ca and leaf Ca, decreased soil Mg and leaf Mg and caused a slight decrease in soil pH. The ratio of Ca/Mg in apple fruit was significantly increased in 5 of the 6 years from 1983–1988. Coarse and fine gypsum were equally effective and neither of the products accumulated on the soil surface.
