ISHS Acta Horticulturae 274: International Symposium on Diagnosis of Nutritional Status of Deciduous Fruit Orchards

COMPARISON OF THE MINERAL COMPOSITION OF LEAF AND FRUIT IN APPLE AND PEAR CULTIVARS.

Author:   R.D. Marcelle
Abstract:
By using results of a practical service of leaf and fruit analysis it was shown that the fruit mineral content measured at the beginning of July (P, K, Ca, Mg and the ratio K/Ca) cannot be deduced from results of analysis of leaves taken in May or at the end of July. Correlations between fruit and leaf mineral content were rare and weak. These poor relationships remained when fruits and leaves were sampled on the same day, 4 or 5 times between July and yield. The main conclusion of this study was that the only way of knowing the mineral content of a fruit is by measuring instead of deducing it from the results of leaf analysis.
