ISHS Acta Horticulturae 274: International Symposium on Diagnosis of Nutritional Status of Deciduous Fruit Orchards

EFFECTS OF VESICULAR-ARBUSCULAR MYCORRHIZAS AND POTASSIUM ON APPLE SEEDLINGS

Authors:   L. Runjin, L. Xinshu
Abstract:
The effect of a vesicular-arbusoular mycorrhizal ( VAM ) fungus (Glomus versifome Daniela et Trappe ) on the mineral nutrition and growth of apple seedlings (Malus hupehensis Rehd.) was investigated in sterilized and non-sterilized soil with or without potassium(K) added. In sterilized soil with or without K added the VAM inoculation increased the concentration of P, Zn, Cu and Mn in roots and leaf chlorophyll (Chl.) and growth (e.g. leaf area, plant height, dry weight) of the plant. The efficacy of inoculation in non-sterilized soil was not obvious. K-fertilization had little effect on the mineral nutrition and growth of the plant grown in sterilized soil without inoculation, but significantly reduced Cu, Zn and Mn uptake by the plant with inoculation. In non-sterilized soil K added increased P concentration of the top and growth of the plant without inoculated, and enhanced Cu, Zn, Mn and Fe uptake by the plant which was inoculated.
