ISHS Acta Horticulturae 274: International Symposium on Diagnosis of Nutritional Status of Deciduous Fruit Orchards

APPLE AND GRAPEVINE LEAF ANALYSIS IN ADVISORY WORK IN TRENTO DISTRICT (NORTHERN ITALY).

Authors:   O. Failla, A. Scienza, E. Mescalchin, C. Agnolin, G. Stringari, P. Fox
Abstract:
A research programme, started to gather information useful to the practical application of leaf analyses in the advisory work of apple and grapevine growings of Trento district, has shown that the nutritional status of apple orchards and vineyards, chosen for their satisfactory productivity, adequate vegetative growth and good quality crops, do not fit well with reference leaf standards habitually used in Italy to interpret leaf analyses.

Cultivar, seasonal weather condition, location and rootstock are important sources of variability in the nutritional status; relationships between fertilization and nutrients in the leaves and among themselves, can change according to meteorological conditions. Reference leaf standards, adequate for Trento district, are proposed; a method to use leaf analyses in advisory work is suggested.
