THE EFFECT OF SOIL FERTILIZATION IN APPLE-TREE ORCHARD ON THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE TREE ROOTS |

| Abstract:
The study was conducted in an apple-tree orchard (Jonathan variety on M 4 rootstock) in four sites differentiated as to the method of fertilization. The objective of the study was to determine the relationship between the method of soil fertilization in an apple-tree orchard and the number and distribution of tree roots. It was determined that the tree roots are mainly to be found in the surface horizon of the soil, 0 to 25 cm, in the profile portion located closest to the trunk (herbicide strip). Approximately 84% of the roots were to be found in that zone. The smallest number of roots among the fertilization sites under study was characteristic of trees from the site with fertilization applied over the whole area of the site. | |
