Abstract:
A DNA hybridisation method, using a 32P-labelled probe, allows direct detection of small populations (102 colony forming units/calyx) of Erwinia amylovora from apple calyx tissue.
The method has been adopted in New Zealand to confirm orchard inspection procedures that are designed to regulate production of apples that will not disseminate fire blight.
