Abstract:
Experiments with selected E. amylovora strains and apple cultivars grafted in the greenhouse showed that strains may behave differently according to cultivars, as already demonstrated by NORELLI et al, (1984). This showed that the choice of the inoculated strain(s) is important in a screening procedure.
The use of a mixture of different strains, which has been recommended, can offer a solution to this problem.
In our experiments, it has not always been an improvement, as compared with the inoculation of the most aggressive strain alone.
We would rather suggest the use of the inoculation of several selected strains in successive independent steps.
