Abstract:
Two new Pyracantha have been released to trade through the SAPHYR association of French nurserymen.
Pyracantha Cadrou SAPHYRR ROUGE and Cadange SAPHYRR ORANGE have respectively red and orange long lasting heavy fructification.
They were selected among progenies of the cross Pyracantha 'Shawnee' X Pyracantha x 'Mozart' after recurrent inoculations with French and American isolates of Erwinia amylovora.
Furthermore, the breeding program gave rise to a population of highly resistant plants, usable as a source of other new cultivars.
In this paper, the breeding strategy is described and recent results are given.
